Facts and How to Join the Team
Team Organization
- The Mesabi Range Norse Stars Ice Hockey Club team is a men’s organization
that only discriminates based on skill of the player at hockey.
- Mesabi Range club hockey team will be registered
through the American Collegiate Hockey
Association (ACHA)
Division III.
- Anyone who would like to play college
hockey is encouraged to tryout.
- The (ACHA) Division III roster is limited
to approximately 18 skaters and 2 goalies.
- Players are expected
to maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA, for each semester in school.
- Athletic Eligibility
will be used.
- All roster spots are
open every year. No preference is given to returning players.
- Teams are selected
by the captains, who were elected by their team mates or coach the previous
year.
Team Tryouts
- Tryout
application
- Tryouts are mandatory for all new and
returning players.
- Tryout format is at the discretion of
the captains.
- Captains are elected based on leadership
qualities and dedication to the team.
Player Commitments
- Must be enrolled as a fulltime student
(12 credits)
- MnSCU Waiver needs to signed and on
file
- Must have proof of medical insurance
(need a copy of file)
- Must have a physical
- Financial obligation is $200.00 dollars
upon being selected to the team (due by October 2, 2007)
- There are usually 2 practices per week
(location: Chisholm or Virginia)
- Additional dry-land practices and
physical conditioning may be required at the discretion of the captains
or coaches
- All members are encouraged to help fundraise
and find sponsors to help with financial needs (ice time, travel,officials
and etc.) Hockey is an expensive sport.
- League games are played approximately
every weekend. Our home rink is in Chisholm so all games require some
traveling (car pooling is available).
Equipment (must fit accordingly):
- Helmet with cage
- Mouth guard
- Shoulder pads
- Shin pads
- Elbow pads
- Jock
- Practice jersey
- Practice Socks
- Ice skates
- Black Ice pants (optional)
