IMSP 0094 Keyboarding I (1 Lab; 1 Cr) An introductory course designed for development or update of basic beginning keyboard skills using the keyboard and word processing software. Speed and accuracy will be developed.
IMSP 1235 Integrated Software Applications (2 Lec, 1 Lab; 3 Cr) Through hands-on application, the student will acquire additional skill in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation graphics software, and learn how they integrate. Through the use of practical projects, the student will learn to solve integration-type application problems. Prerequisites: IMSP 1251, IMSP 1285, and IMSP 2285
IMSP 1245 Business Presentations (1 Lec, 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course covers the creation of a presentation using Power Point. Students will create a professional presentation using a projection device attached to a personal computer. This course includes instruction in the use of digital cameras, scanning devices, insertion of external files, images, and sound clips. Prerequisite: IMSP 1251
IMSP 1251 Word Processing I (1 Lec, 1 Lab; 2 Cr) An introductory course designed for development of basic/beginning word processing knowledge and skills using a full-featured word processing program. Prerequisite: IMSP 0094 or keyboarding skills at 35wpm
IMSP 1252 Word Processing II (1 Lec, 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course is a continuation of word processing with a focus on increased proficiency. Students will gain skills in the use of macros, merge, sort, templates, styles, and graphics. Prerequisite: IMSP 1251
IMSP 1261 Information Management Specialist I (2 Lec, 1 Lab; 3 Cr) This course focuses on indexing and filing, telephone techniques, use of calculators, and calendaring and scheduling for the Information Specialist, featuring current electronic office software and equipment.
IMSP 1262 Information Management Specialist II (1 Lec, 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This Information Specialist capstone course focuses on advanced word processing software and projects, machine transcription, work place issues, and ethics in today’s Electronic Office environment. Prerequisite: Completion of one semester of IMSP program or permission of instructor
IMSP 1265 Medical Terminology (1 Lec; 1 Cr) This course covers introduction to word analysis by study of word roots, prefixes and suffixes, and abbreviations common to the medical profession. By utilizing the techniques of combining word roots, prefixes, and suffixes, the medical secretary will be able to spell, pronounce, and locate in the medical dictionary words that she/he encounters in medical transcription. This class has a business focus with emphasis on the written aspect of medical office terminology.
IMSP 1266 Medical Office Management (1 Lec, 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This introductory course to medical office procedures covers medical office career opportunities, medical ethics and laws, telephone techniques, appointment scheduling, filing, patient records, mail, and fee collection.
IMSP 1267 Medical Machine Transcription (1 Lec, 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course introduces medical machine transcription and covers transcription of dictated medical material into a variety of usable medical documents. Emphasis is on authentic forms and material, building speed and accuracy, proofreading, advanced editing, and correcting errors.
IMSP 1275 Legal Terminology (1 Lec; 1 Cr) The focus of this course is on legal terminology and theory. This course introduces students to the specialized vocabulary, legal procedures, and documents.
IMSP 1276 Legal Office Management (1 Lec, 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course covers the integration of legal office tasks into the office setting and provides a background study of the branches of the government and the state and federal court systems. Topics include legal duties such as communicating with attorneys and clients, preparing legal correspondence and documents, preparing court documents, maintaining client records, scheduling appointments, legal timekeeping, and integrating these tasks into today’s electronic office setting, as well as understanding court structures and related legal terminology.

IMSP 1285 Spreadsheets I (1 Lec; 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course covers the use of a computerized spreadsheets system for business applications. Topics include document creation, storage and retrieval, editing, printing, and file distribution.
IMSP 1286 Spreadsheets II (1 Lec; 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course continues with advanced spreadsheet concepts. Topics include database management within a spreadsheet, “what if” analysis, extensive use of multiple worksheets, extensive use of maps and charts, setting range variables with the use of macros, and advanced printing functions and worksheet organization. Prerequisite: IMSP 1285
IMSP 1290 Basic Accounting Concepts (3 Lec; 3 Cr) This course provides an introduction to accounting terms, concepts, and procedures. It focuses on the complete accounting cycle for a small business. Students will learn to analyze business transactions, record transactions in journals, post to the ledger, cash procedures, complete the accounting cycle, and prepare basic financial reports. The course prepares students for employment in basic office positions.
IMSP 1295 Administrative Office Management (1 Lec, 2 Lab; 2 Cr) This course focuses on the information function in the information center. Students study the "cutting edge" technology and human relation skills necessary to maximize the use of information tolls and procedures in their career. It also focuses on the Principles of Management and supervisory skills.
IMSP 1369 Desktop Publishing (2 Lec, 1 Lab; 3 Cr) This course is designed to introduce students to the concepts, terminology, techniques, and applications of desktop publishing. Students will integrate word processing and graphics and manipulate text and images as they produce professional business documents. Prerequisite: IMSP 1251
IMSP 2275 Business Dynamics (2 Lec; 2 Cr) This course is designed for Information Management Specialist career students to develop and demonstrate knowledge of human business relations in the areas of interpersonal relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers, self-awareness in communication, self-esteem, stress management, personal attitudes and habits, legal and ethical issues, cultural diversity, conflict resolution, team problem solving, critical thinking strategies, issues concerning harassment, and developing wellness and personal goal setting. Class attendance is important and will be part of the grade, along with classroom discussion, assignments, presentations, and exams.
IMSP 2285 Database Concepts & Applications I (1 Lec; 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course introduces the student to database software used to manage data. It covers essential windows skills; planning, creating, testing, and changing database files; adding changing, importing, and deleting records form a database; querying database files; designing, creating, and using forms and filters; creating reports, and using macros.
IMSP 2286 Database Concepts & Applications II (1 Lec; 1 Lab; 2 Cr) This course expands the student’s knowledge in database software. It covers planning, creating, testing, and changing database files through development of database application, enhancing query applications through the use of Select and Crosstab activities, introducing and using Bound and Unbound Forms and Form Styles, and enhancing reports using Objects and Properties. Prerequisite: IMSP 2285
