Automotive Technician

automotive programAUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN - 2 YEAR DIPLOMA
Students learn basic fundamentals such as automotive theory, safety, electrical systems, fuel systems, brake systems and lubrication. Basic auto electrical and basic engine construction are stressed in the first year curriculum.

Second year students work on repair problems in an actual shop situation using modern diagnostic equipment. Students isolate problems and repair as necessary. Advanced units in computerized engine control in the areas of fuel, ignition and emissions are stressed during the second year. Also emphasized are electronics, computer systems, and front wheel drives. The instructors are ASE Certified Technicians.

Helpful background Reading skills, shop mathematics, physics, and electrical courses are important, as well as the ability to work with others.

Employment Opportunities Automotive Technicians are very important in a nation dependent upon gas and diesel automobiles for transportation. People are keeping vehicles for a longer period of time, and this means more maintenance throughout the life of a vehicle.

Today's auto technician is a well-paid, highly-skilled and respected worker. Graduates may find employment in dealerships, specialty shops and in large industry. Some may become service managers, sales personnel, factory representatives, or they may own their own business.
